Born in Bulgaria, Gergana Popova has lived in Vienna since 1996. She graduated from the Dimitur Hadzhivasilev Commercial High School in Svishtov and studied piano in the master class of Svetla Zurbanova. She also graduated in Archaeology at Veliko Tarnovo University, specializing in Medieval Studies and Numismatics.
An author of numerous publications in Bulgaria and Austria, Popova has written poetry since an early age. Her poems and paintings have been featured in the multimedia production “Kaleidoscope of Passions” at Ensemble 21 Theater in Vienna. She has exhibited in Austria, Spain, the USA, and Bulgaria. Her canvases combine harmonious color palettes with a unique visual style described as magical symbolism, employing diverse techniques and unconventional materials that merge philosophy, folklore, and religion.
Popova’s works convey messages, provoke reflection, and invite viewers to solve their magical puzzles. She also performs in concerts with her husband, musician Jürgen Rotensteiner, as the duo “Zwilicht,” and in 2024 created the project “Gergana Popova Trio,” joined by guitarist Tobias Faulhammer.
