Svilen Dimitrov was born in Ruse. 

He graduated from the Prof. Veselin Stoyanov Secondary School of Music, majoring in violin. He was admitted to the Faculty of Theory at the State Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov,” where he studied choral conducting with Prof. Liliya Gyuleva and opera and symphonic conducting with Prof. Ivan Marinov. Since 1997, he has been working with the children’s choir Danube Waves.

He is the conductor of the choirs and orchestra of the National School of Arts “Prof. Veselin Stoyanov,” with which he has won awards at numerous international festivals and competitions. He has conducted concerts with the Ruse Philharmonic included in the Ruse Christmas Festival. For these concerts, as well as for other projects of the Ruse State Opera, Svilen Dimitrov has created numerous arrangements and orchestrations. Between 2013 and 2015, he conducted productions of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice on the stage of the Ruse State Opera. In 2014, he participated with the girls’ choir of the National School of Arts in the March Music Days festival.

Since early 2015, he has been the conductor of the mixed choir Prof. Vasil Arnaudov in Ruse. With this ensemble, he is a regular participant in the March Music Days festival, as well as in numerous choral festivals across Bulgaria. In 2016, the choir, together with the Ruse Philharmonic, gave the Bulgarian premiere of John Rutter’s Magnificat. In 2019, he conducted the Bulgarian premiere of John Rutter’s Mass of the Children.

Since 1998, he has been teaching theoretical subjects at the National School of Arts “Prof. Veselin Stoyanov.” He has worked as a vocal coach and conductor with the children of the Ruse Children’s Opera since its founding in 2015. Together with the theatre and dance educators of the Ruse Children’s Opera, he has created the productions Scrooge, West Side Story, Annie in the Kingdom of Flowers, Beauty and the Beast, A New World, Save Christmas, and The Tinderbox. These productions have been performed in more than 40 performances before a total audience of around 20,000 in Ruse, Tutrakan, Silistra, Razgrad, and Sofia.

After an almost two-year hiatus, in 2022 the Ruse Children’s Opera resumed its activity with the opera Knightly Quest by American composer Karl Vollrath, in which the children of the ensemble are the main performers.
